5 Tackles & 1 Forced Fumble

We are so proud of Isaiah for persevering through practice & 4 games every weekday afternoon & a couple of Saturday mornings for 15 weeks. 5 tackles & 1 forced fumble. He wasn’t allowed to play in the 5th & final game due to suffering a concussion from the forced fumble & tackle in the game prior. We cannot say thank you enough to Head Coach Mark, DB Coach Sean, Punavision, & Punahou School!

Biggest of thanks also go out to all of the SOHI volunteers, our fellow schools, our players, & our families for all of their willingness, sacrifice, & support!

After settling in with his new school, schedule, etc. over 2 seasons… Isaiah returned to the gridiron! With the 49ers retired, I pursued the head coach with the most sportsmanship/kindness I knew… Coach Dave! Turns out we lucked out with a carbon copy… Coach Davin! Video  Video  Video  49ers End of an Era * Final Game of our 10 Seasons (Isaiah’s 13th)

With Isaiah beginning his new school in town in the Fall — with great sadness — this past Saturday at Aloha Stadium was our final game as the 49ers. We’ll clear his afternoons for the new homework load, the commute, & maybe for one of their after school clubs.

We’d like to thank i9 Sports Honolulu for being an outstanding organization across the board & most of all for their equality philosophy. I am very happy to say that we followed their philosophy every step of the way for the past 2.5 years.

We’d like to thank our many families for being supportive & giving all throughout through good times & when the score wasn’t in our favor.

Saturday was one of our greatest days as a team, having gone down to the very final play. We couldn’t have asked for a better scenario to end our era together.

Our 10-season average of each player having scored at least 1 TD &/or Conv per season ends at 89.4%. Here we were season by season…

Winter 2016: 70%
Spring 2016: 88.9%
Summer 2016: 100%
Fall 2016: 80%
Winter 2017: 100%
Spring 2017: 87.5%
Summer 2017: 100%
Fall 2017: 87.5%
Winter 2018: 100%
Spring 2018: 80%

Personally, Isaiah ends his 13 seasons having scored 117 TDs &/or Convs.

Humbled to have received this award & grateful to be a part of i9 Sports Honolulu.

Love this team & love this season! We supported & encouraged each other the entire way. 100% of the 49ers scored a TD, making our 9-season average in every player scoring at least 1 TD or 1 Conv 90.4%. Personally, Isaiah scored 6 times, making his 12-season total 113 TDs &/or Convs. Our families were the best. Willing, giving, & reliable!

REUNION SEASON! Isaiah’s 11th individually & our 8th as a team. We moved up to 12U this season & reunited with the majority from our inaugural Winter 2016 season. Being together again made this season extra special. 5 of our games were really humbling & 4 were perfect final minute barn burners. We continue to have the exact same formula from our very beginning of everything being divided equally. We also maintain our own set of Core Values. I already have new ideas for next season & cannot wait to see the kids in action next month. These days will go down as the Good Ol’ Days!

I loved this season through & through. Saddened that it’s over. Outstanding humans with all of them finding success. We all got along really well from start to finish, in spite of the stress, pressure, & frustration of the games. Our 1-hour practices each flew on by. Isaiah’s 9th season & our 6th season as a team. I continue wholeheartedly to believe in i9 Sports’ philosophy of equality for young athletes, of which we’ll always follow. The season ended on Sunday but I’m already cooking up a few new tweaks to break out next season/month. Raring to go but Isaiah & I will enjoy the break doing other activities & then we’re back in the saddle! Biggest of thanks to Director Rene & Asst. Director Keanu (both of whom are very fair, patient, efficient, & nice), every 49er, & every family member <3

Yet another very special season. Big thanks go out to i9 Sports Honolulu for their philosophy of fairness & sportsmanship, the heartbeat of youth sports. Big thanks also go out to my kiddo warriors, who never gave up & always hustled. Lastly, big thanks go out to my families, who had been only supportive throughout entire season through thick & thin.

Our season of 2-3-2 became an actual lesson for the boys for their adulthoods to come: we got smashed, we did some smashing, we were able to make a comeback, we were unable to make a comeback, we listened to each other, & we compromised. My ultimate hope is that they’ll say to each other years from now, “Remember when… ?!”

My biggest of thank yous go out to my two right-hand men Coach Gavin & Coach Ka’ohu. Both are very supportive, strategic, & most of all are so kind to the boys!

My biggest of thank yous also go out to Harrison, Kortney, & Mr. Safety of Hawaii Self Storage. It was Harrison who’d designed our too awesome Booster Shirts & gave them to all of us at no charge!

Lastly, I’d like to thank both Dir. Rene & Asst. Dir. Keanu of i9 Sports for always being timely, fair, open-minded, & just the coolest guys! All of the referees, too!

Season-long goals:

*All will score (TD/Conv)… 8 of 10
*All will pull a flag… 9 of 10
*2 wins… 1

Warriors 25, 49ers 13
Wolfpack 26, 49ers 19

49ers 25, Wolfpack 18
Broncos 26, 49ers 24

On a personal note, I’m very happy for Isaiah, who’d scored (TD/Conv) 18 times this season, (bringing his 7-season total to 61) & made 1 INT (total to 6).

After we attack the Holidays, Winter 2017 will be here. Having the time of my life!

Video  Crushers Summer 2016

We coached 9 great kids who wanted to play the game of football! None needed any urging & all played their hearts out. Our team is rooted in equity… win or lose.

We met our season-long goals:

* 9 of 9 players scored a TD/Conv

* 9 of 9 players pulled a flag

Our best game was Sunday’s season finale… a 44-38 Overtime loss to the Warriors! It was super exciting & also exhausting!

Biggest thank you goes out to Coach Gavin, who has had my back/all of our backs every step of the way. He is an outstanding Defensive Coach, role model, & friend. Biggest thank you also goes out to Team Mom Rachel & Coach Kaohu for all of their assistance & support as well as for their excellent Ka’ohu Productions photography (inset). Not to mention all of our very caring & giving families.

On a personal level, Isaiah had scored a TD/Conv 12 times this season, bringing his 6-season scoring total to 43.

We’ll now take a break for a few weeks then they’ll lace ’em up yet again. Cannot wait!

Video  Crushers Spring 2016

What an extremely special season it was! The not-so-good was our 1-6 record (the win being unofficial against a replacement after a forfeit). The great was our 9 players listening/cooperating, giving 100%, & getting along well/gelling throughout the whole season. Plus, all of our families were very supportive, in spite of all of the losses. Our system is equal plays both on offense & defense. We also give the boys the opportunity to create their own running play. Our passing plays give everyone a chance to make a reception. The best part was seeing each Crusher make their own memories while the rest of the boys & families cheered on. On a personal note, the losses helped me/forced me to change my perspective from win-loss to appreciating each player’s effort & heart. It also helped me/forced me to gain some patience. On another personal note, as a dad, I was happy to see Isaiah score 12 times during the season, bringing his 5-season total to 31. Lastly, I’m really grateful for yet another chance to be smack dab in the mix. I ask Isaiah every early-season if he’d like me to coach the next season & he gave me the nod for Summer 2016. These are the greatest of times & I’m thrilled to be along for the ride <3

Video  SEAHAWKS Winter 2016

What a great season! This was Isaiah’s 4th & my 1st as co-head coach (offense), alongside co-head coach Coach Darrin (defense). Before the season began, we coincidentally agreed that our mantra would be equal play count, teamwork, character, & hustle. We were treated to seeing very good moments by each player.

Biggest of thanks to every Seahawk & their all supportive families for being cooperative, willing, & for buying into our way.

A retro big thanks to Isaiah’s season 1 & 2 head coach Coach Koa, a model coach. I stole a lot of his ideas!

Photography: James Miura for his tremendous action work & Auntie Rachel for her priceless team photo.

Most of all, I thank Coach Darrin. I couldn’t have been paired with a better coach & friend. He always arrived with his best & was our voice of reason. We agreed that these days with our sons are the greatest and I’m thrilled & thankful that we’ll return next month. Maybe we’ll make a couple of tweaks but we’ll hold to our mantra. Already cannot wait!
